TC Canvas 10 oz vs 12 oz: Choosing the Right Weight for Your Custom Suit Bag
When buyers ask for a carrier-style suit bag in TC canvas, the first question after fabric is almost always weight: 10 oz or 12 oz? Both are polyester-cotton blend canvases — the same family, two different personalities. Here is how we guide the choice in every quote.
What “TC Canvas” Actually Means
TC stands for a polyester-cotton blend — commonly around 65% polyester to 35% cotton. The cotton gives the weave body and a natural hand-feel; the polyester adds colour fastness, dimensional stability and easy care. The result is a structured canvas that holds screen prints crisply and keeps its shape bag after bag.
Weight is measured in ounces per square yard — 10 oz and 12 oz are the two most requested specs for custom suit bags.
10 oz vs 12 oz at a Glance
| 10 oz TC Canvas | 12 oz TC Canvas | |
|---|---|---|
| Hand-feel | Supple, drapes a little more | Firm, holds its structure |
| Body | Light-to-mid weight | Heavier, stiffer |
| Print sharpness | Excellent | Excellent — very crisp |
| Typical use | Retail bags, travel, everyday carry | Daily-use carrier bags, dry-cleaning loops |
When to Choose 10 oz
Choose 10 oz when the bag will spend most of its life hanging in a wardrobe or travelling in a suitcase — where weight matters and a little drape looks refined. It prints beautifully and keeps the carrier bag light to carry, which your end customers notice on the walk from the shop to the car.
When to Choose 12 oz
Choose 12 oz when the bag works for a living: daily handling in a dry-cleaning loop, loaded with a full three-piece suit, or used as a branded tote-style carrier. The firmer weave holds its shape, protects better against knocks, and gives the bag a more premium “weight” in the hand.
The Rule We Give Buyers
- One suit, occasional travel, retail presentation → 10 oz.
- Daily carry, programmes, long service life → 12 oz.
- Not sure → order two samples, one in each weight, and feel the difference before committing.
What Else Changes With the Weight
Weight is only one lever. The same carrier bag can be paired with different handles, zippers and openings, printed or left plain, and sized from 60 × 100 cm to your exact garment. We treat the whole spec as one system — fabric, hardware and print are chosen together, not separately.
Sample First, Always
Print swatches and photos never tell the full story — weight is something you feel. A physical sample with your logo, your chosen weight and your hardware is typically ready in about 7 days. Compare materials side by side in our materials library, then send your spec and we will recommend the weight that fits your programme.
