Custom Garment Bags for Hotels: What Luxury Brands Order
We’ve supplied hotel garment bags to properties from 50-a-night economy chains to suites that run four figures. The specs are closer than people expect. The branding is where they diverge.
The order that taught us the most: 3,000 bags for a 240-room property. They didn’t need 3,000 wardrobe bags. They needed spares, event stock, and bags guests take home. That’s the thing about hotel garment bags — every one that leaves the property keeps working.
Why a bag that costs cents does billboard-level branding
Think about the guest’s first two minutes in the room. They open the wardrobe, and there it is: your logo, at eye level, on a bag holding the spare blanket or the extra hangers. No other amenity gets that kind of focused attention for the cost of a bag.
A custom logo garment bag at 80 gsm runs well under a dollar at factory level. It’s the cheapest branded touchpoint in the room, and it’s the one guests actually touch.
The logo work is where hotels spend their budget. Four methods cover 95 percent of what we ship:
| Logo method | Look | Cost add per bag | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Screen print | Flat, bold, 1–2 colors | Lowest | Standard rooms, daily use |
| Hot stamping | Metallic foil, elegant | Low | Suites, premium floors |
| Embroidery | Raised thread, textured | Mid | Suites, club levels |
| Woven label | Sewn-in label, durable | Low | Valet, laundry services |
Screen printing covers most hotel orders. Hot stamping and embroidery are the suite-level choices — the guest can feel the difference, and that’s the point.
Match PMS colors, not “close enough.” A logo one shade off the brand book gets noticed by exactly the person who signs the next order: the brand director.
What actually gets ordered, room by room
Hotels don’t order one bag. They order a family of them. Here’s the pattern we see in the order books:
| Use | Typical spec | Typical quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Standard room wardrobe | 80 gsm non-woven, 100 cm, screen printed logo | 500–2,000 |
| Suites & club levels | 100 gsm, PEVA window, 140 cm, embroidery or hot stamping | 200–800 |
| Valet & laundry | 100 gsm or polyester, 125–140 cm, full-length zipper | 300–1,000 |
| Events & gown service | 150–165 cm, gown length, reinforced hanger slot | 100–500 |
Standard rooms run on 80 gsm non-woven with a screen printed logo. Suites upgrade to 100 gsm, add a PEVA window so the guest sees what’s inside, and step the logo up to embroidery. Valet departments need the full-length zipper and the 125–140 cm length because they handle overcoats. Events need gown lengths — 160 cm bags for ballroom season.
One detail repeat buyers always ask for: a reinforced hanger slot. Wardrobe staff move bags fast, and a torn slot is the fastest way to turn a good amenity into trash.
The second surprise is gsm. Buyers ask for 100 gsm when 80 gsm would do the job. The heavier sheet costs about 15 percent more and feels stiffer in the hand. Worth it for suites. Wasteful across 2,000 standard rooms. We’ll tell you which one you’re buying.
The numbers that make or break a hotel order
First orders run 500 to 5,000 pieces. Chains consolidate: one PO, one spec, then we drop-ship per property. That’s how a 300-room brand gets to 4,000 bags without storing a single carton.
The timeline: sample in 7 days, bulk production in 20–30 days. Order for wedding season — April through June in the US, plus the December holidays — about six weeks out, and you’ll have stock before the first ballroom event.
Two logistics details worth knowing before you sign. Bags ship flat, and a standard export carton holds about 200 pieces at 80 gsm — under 15 kg per carton, easy for housekeeping to store. Most hotel buyers also run a third-party inspection against AQL 2.5 before the container leaves port. It costs a little, and it keeps the reorder conversation friendly.
Shipping terms matter more here than in any other segment we serve. FOB suits a property with its own logistics. CIF hands the freight to us. DDP puts the landed cost on us entirely — hotels with central purchasing offices lean on DDP because the invoice is predictable.
Sustainability is no longer optional in this segment. Roughly a third of our hotel RFQs now mention GRS or recycled material. A 100 percent rPET bag with an OEKO-TEX certified print costs 10 to 20 percent more, and it lands you on the approved vendor list of brands that wouldn’t look at non-woven at all.
How to brief a supplier without burning a sample round
A clean brief saves everyone a week. Here’s the list we hand to every new hotel buyer:
- Logo file as vector — AI or PDF, never a JPEG pulled off the website
- PMS color codes for logo and bag
- Bag length and gsm
- Quantity and target price per piece
- Delivery port and terms (FOB, CIF or DDP)
That’s the whole spec. Six lines, and we can quote the same day.
Then ask for pre-production samples — three pieces, not one. Test the zipper with 100 cycles, tug the hanger slot, and tape-test the print: press tape over the logo and pull. If ink lifts, it will lift in guest rooms.
Finally, ask for a photo of the print run — not the sample, the actual production line. You want to see the logo registration on the real fabric before the container loads.
We’ve seen buyers burn three sample rounds on a low-res logo file. Vector in, vector out. That one habit saves the most time of anything in this business.
What luxury brands order that budget chains skip
Budget chains order the basics: 60 gsm, one-color print, 100 cm. Luxury properties add four things.
Embroidery instead of print, even on closet bags. PEVA windows on suite stock. Care labels sewn in with the property name — the label costs about 0.05 USD, and it’s the detail a guest actually reads. And recycled RPET where the brand publishes ESG numbers.
There’s also the take-home factor. Guests use the bag, then pack it and keep it. Every bag that leaves the property is a billboard that travels to a home in another city. Luxury brands understand this. They spend the extra 0.10–0.20 USD on the bag because they’re buying months of exposure, not one night of it.

We ordered 2,000 garment bags for our Dubai hotel group. Lengths came exactly as specced, the 100gsm non-woven feels substantial, and the gold stamping on our logo looks right. Delivery hit the promised window.
